When I was in Ecuador I had the chance to meet with MIGUEL OLVERA. Miguel was one of Ecuador’s top players in the 60s and 70s. He was not very big but was known as a great clay court player and incredibly fast. The joke was told that if you played a drop shot against him he would take it on the volley!!

His greatest match was in the Davis Cup in the late 60s when he defeated Arthur Ashe in singles and Ecuador went on to win the match 3/2.

Miguel kindly gave me a signed copy of his autobiography “la Vida de un Campeón”. It was an honour to receive it from such a humble man and a great champion of tennis past. He is now 81 but as you will see he still is so fit and looks ready to be back on the pro tour anytime!
