I have been following the tweets by top tennis writer George Bellshaw that have been posted over the past few days re climate change and tennis. It follows the meeting that took place in Roland Garros that was organised by the FFT and involved the four Grand Slams. I am a great supporter of tennis playing its part in the battles against climate change.

One of the pillars of my campaign for ITF President is the contribution of tennis towards society and the environment. Tennis is one of the best sports for building life skills. It has also been proven to be the best for health as people can play tennis for all their life.

I met with Al Gore in Oporto in March and we agreed that if I was elected we would make tennis an example of best practice among sports. We plan to do an environmental audit of all areas of tennis including clubs and to put together a protocol for tennis to follow. Also the use of top players to support environmental issues can make a big difference. I know top players like Kevin Anderson are already very vocal in this subject.

Certainly tennis as a sport can do more and if elected ITF president in September I will endure that the ITF leads the sport in the right direction.
