I am leaving Ecuador after two days visiting the Tennis Federation. It was a pleasure to spend time with two of South America’s tennis legends – President Danilo Carrera Drouet and former Roland Garros Champion Andres Gomez.

Danilo has accomplished so much in tennis having been Davis Cup Captain in the 60s and three times President of the Ecuador Tennis Federation. He was captain when Ecuador beat a strong USA team in Guayaquil in 1968. He was also, for 18 years, President of the National Olympic Committee and it was great to spend time with him.

We had the chance to meet and have extensive discussions about tennis in Ecuador and the South American Region, the ITF and world tennis in general. I also had a chance to share, with Danilo, Andres and some of his board members, my vision for the ITF and global tennis going forward and to listen to Danilo’s view, especially on what the ITF could do better for the shareholder nations like Ecuador.

I am leaving Guayaquil today for Lima where I will attend the tennis event at the Pan American Games and have a meeting with the Perú tennis President Michael Hoffer.
