I never cease to be a amazed at how small the international tennis world is.

This week I went from the Asia Pacific coach conference in Cambodia on Monday to Florida, via London and Dublin, to attend meetings at the ITA collegiate coaches conference in Naples , Florida.

In Naples, I met up with the Women’s coach from Vanderbilt University, Geoff McDonald. I had not seen Geoff for 34 years. We met playing a satellite circuit in 1984 in Switzerland and we won a doubles tournament together all those years together. 1984 was the last time we met and it was great to see him again and to catch up with him after all this time. One of the good guys!

Top Irish junior, Georgia Drummy, stayed at my house this summer in the lead up to junior Wimbledon and I was very impressed with her. She certainly has the potential to be a successful professional player in the future. She has just signed to go to US College next year and had chosen to accept a scholarship from Vanderbilt. So Geoff will be her coach for the next 4 years. Yes it’s a very small world!! Back to the winter weather in London tonight from Miami, after a nice lunch by the water in South Beach. I’m looking forward to being in one place for a while until I leave for Australia on January 13.
