I was pleased yesterday to receive a very supportive email from Sports Minister Shane Ross regarding my candidature for ITF President. He confirmed the Irish government’s desire to see more Irish sports officials and administrators in high level positions in International sport federations and Sport Ireland’s commitment to Irish representation on International sports federations. His message reinforces the position of Sport Ireland CEO John Treacy, whom I met with recently in Dublin and who was supportive of my bid.

In my 25 years at ITF, in charge of its biggest department, I tried to be a good ambassador for Irish Sport. Whilst I live in London, I also have a home in Dublin where I love spending time. I am from an Irish tennis family (my grandfather was the first Irish Davis Cup captain in 1923) and so care about the success of Irish tennis and am now very active as a volunteer with both Leinster Tennis and Tennis Coach Ireland.

I have a press conference at the Miami Open to formally announce my plans to be a candidate and it means a lot to me to have the support and good wishes in advance of that from the Minister, who took time to congratulate me for putting myself forward for such a position and who wished me every success in my bid for the Presidency.

Next stop Miami!
