Three countries in one day!!

I have travelled 130+ days per year for 30 years but this was a first for me.

I started in Oslo with an 8:30 am flight to Stockholm, having met with the Norway Tennis President Gisle Jentoft the night before. I then attended the draw for the Davis Cup Israel v Sweden at the famous Royal Stockholm  Club. I then met with Thomas Wallen, Swedish Tennis President, to discus my ideas and vision for tennis and the ITF going forward. I also met with Yoni Yarom, the Israel Tennis President who was attending the draw. At 7 pm I was on a flight to Helsinki and tucked up in my hotel by 10 pm.

Today I had the privilege to watch Dominic Thiem practice before meeting with the Presidents of both Austria and Finland.

Now I am at Helsinki airport again and heading to Athens via Istanbul.

Why am I making this effort to meet the Presidents face to face? It’s because I want them to know me as a person and to understand why I am a candidate. It’s not for ego. It’s not for money. It’s because I want to do something good for the sport I love and that has given me so much.

Small world – I also bumped into former Irish Davis Cup player, Gary Cahill who was in Helsinki for a coach conference.

Boarding flight now – Davis Cup Group 3 in Athens….here I come!
